Okayama

Korakuen Garden one of the  Three Great Gardens of Japan. The garden was tarted in 1686 for the Lord Tsunamasa Ikeda . The construction of the garden took 14 years!.

Also visit the Buikan historical area of Kurashiki, an old textile and rice commerce center. Also visit Imbe, the home of Bizen ware, Bizen ware (2).  See also the Kurashiki sightseeingKurashiki  and  Map of Kurashiki.

Visit the  Lookout on Washuzan (Kurashiki City) for a great view of   Seto Inland Sea and the magnificent Seto Ohashi Bridge (see pic, actually six bridges) connecting the major islands of Honshu and Shikoku. The bridge can be crossed by train or by car. More details about the bridge.

The Kibi Road beteen Okayama and Soja cities was important in the development of from the 5th century.  There are many tumuli in this area including the famous   Tsukuriyama Tumulus and also many  temples, shrines and historical buildings.

The northern part of the Okayama Prefecture lies along the mountains western Honshu. The natural features include peaks, gorges, caves waterfalls, limestone caves, etc. There  towns and villages such as  Tsuyama, (Tsuyama History), Fukiya Village, Ishibiya Village, Enjo Village, and Koshihata Village have preserved the architecture of the past. Be sure to visit the dungeon of the  The  Bitchu Matsuma Castle.
